The New York Board of Rabbis
and Diva Communications
Awarded Grant For
Domestic Violence Documentary
The New York Board of Rabbis and three-time Emmy award winning production company Diva Communications, Inc. have been awarded a significant grant to produce an interfaith documentary on domestic or intimate partner violence. The 2010 grant, from Odyssey Networks, will help underwrite the production of an hour-long examination of the work that faith groups are doing to combat this increasing epidemic.
The documentary, anticipated to air on ABC syndicated stations in 2011, will continue the focused efforts the New York Board of Rabbis has brought to bear on the issue since its creation of their domestic violence initiative in 2005, Dayenu, Enough Silence. Dayneu Director Rabbi Diana Manber said, “This grant couldn’t have come at a better time. The incidents of domestic partner violence have risen as the economy has fallen and we need to raise awareness of what the faith groups are doing to provide resources for victims.
Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, Executive Vice President of the New York Board of Rabbis said, “I am delighted that the New York Board of Rabbis has received this generous grant from Odyssey Network. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to continue to train the spotlight on this national and worldwide crisis. The involvement of the National Council of Churches and other faith-based organizations continues the Board’s tradition of interfaith engagement and learning from one another as we channel the energy of different groups into a positive drive. We are thrilled that Diva Communications, who has produced over fifteen documentaries and who has been a long time partner of ours, will be working with us again on this timely documentary.”
The New York Board of Rabbis, the primary forum for rabbis within New York’s diverse rabbinical community, is committed to enhancing and expanding the Rabbinate’s role for the betterment of the Jewish people and the world at large.
